Colson Hicks Eidson Names Two New Partners

MIAMI (January 11, 2000)Colson Hicks Eidson today announced that Joseph Kalbac, Jr. and Julie Braman Kane were promoted to partnership status in the thirty-year-old Miami law firm.

“We are happy and proud to have Joe and Julie as partners,” stated Mike Eidson, partner at Colson Hicks Eidson.

“Joe’s and Julie’s ability and expertise in handling significant law suits have been a great asset to our practice,” added Dean Colson, partner at Colson Hicks Eidson. “This recognition is long overdue to both of them.”

Kalbac, a forty-year resident of Coral Gables, with long standing family roots in South Florida, obtained his J.D. degree from Cumberland School of Law after receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami. Prior to joining Colson Hicks Eidson, Kalbac practiced for thirteen years as a trial lawyer with the prestigious defense firm of Kubicki Draper, where he was a partner.

Today, Kalbac’s practice concentrates on personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice, products liability, employment discrimination, construction and other professional liability claims, as well as catastrophic multidistrict and mass tort litigation.

Kalbac has served as President of the Dade County Defense Bar Association, Director of the Dade County Bar Association, Member of the Ad Hoc Trial Practices and Procedure Committee for Dade County Circuit Court, Vice Chair of the Florida Bar 11th Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee and Advocate Member of The American Board of Trial Advocates.

After graduating with honors from the University of Miami School of Law, Kane clerked at Colson Hicks Eidson, and in 1993 joined the firm—where she specializes in product liability, medical malpractice and general personal injury.

Kane is active in several trial lawyers’ organizations and is on the Board of Directors of the Dade County Trial Lawyers. She is a former officer of and the Florida Liaison for the Women’s Caucus and a State Governor for the New Lawyers’ Division of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. She is a past Chair of the Young Lawyers’ Section for the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers, where she is also Chair-Elect of the Women’s Caucus where she sits on the Board of Directors.
