Bio

Stephanie A. Casey is a Partner at Colson Hicks Eidson, bringing over a decade of experience to the firm. Stephanie is a highly skilled attorney with a diverse practice that encompasses representing injured consumers, victims of data breaches, and individuals who were improperly denied health benefits, including cases involving Proton Beam Radiation Therapy for cancer treatment. Stephanie also handles False Claims Act/whistleblower cases in various industries, including healthcare, telecommunications, and military contracts.

Stephanie has a proven track record of success in achieving favorable outcomes for her clients through skilled negotiation and litigation. The well-regarded Chambers USA Guide has described her as “an excellent lawyer,” “skilled and knowledgeable,” and “a fantastic lawyer, especially on the plaintiff side.”

Among her notable cases, Stephanie represented Havana Docks Corporation in four cases of first impression under the Helms Burton Act, in which Colson Hicks obtained four judgments totaling about $450 million. She also obtained a multi-million-dollar judgment in favor of Brazilian investors defrauded in an international Ponzi scheme and defending a beauty products startup against securities and RICO claims, resulting in the dismissal of all claims at the pleadings stage. Stephanie also obtained a favorable settlement on the eve of trial on behalf of the family of a mentally ill individual who was subjected to multiple taser shocks by police officers in Hollywood, and was part of a legal team that obtained a jury verdict in favor of a bicyclist who was struck by a vehicle in Key Biscayne, Florida.

Stephanie serves her local community through her work in several voluntary bar organizations in Florida and appointed positions on federal court and Florida Bar committees. She has served as a Board member of the South Florida Chapter of the Federal Bar Association since 2016 and recently completed her term as President of the Chapter. She also served as a Board member for the Miami-Dade Chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers for several years. Stephanie was appointed by then-Chief District Judge K. Michael Moore to the Southern District of Florida’s Ad Hoc Advisory Committee on Court-Annexed Mediation and was appointed by Chief District Judge Cecilia M. Altonaga to serve as a member of the Committee for the Southern District of Florida 2023 Bench and Bar Conference.

She earned her B.A. cum laude from Boston College in 2003. She went on to earn her J.D. magna cum laude from American University, Washington College of Law, in 2007, where she was a member of the Order of the Coif and received Pro Bono Honors. Stephanie has been admitted to the Bar in New York (2008), DC (2008), and Florida (2012). As a native of Brazil, she speaks Portuguese fluently.
