A Florida Waste Management worker lost his life in a tragic accident in Brevard County in September 2011. According to a report at orlandosentinel.com, a car hit the back of a garbage truck, killing one worker and injuring another. The two men were loading tree limbs into the garbage truck when the 27-year-old woman hit the rear of the truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The car-truck collision happened around 7:30 in the morning on Citrus Boulevard. A portion of the woman’s car ended-up underneath the garbage truck after the impact. An FHP spokesperson said the victim was a 55-year-old man; his injured co-worker was a 43-year-old man who was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
Investigators with the FHP are still looking into the fatal crash. Charges are pending against the woman in connection with the crash.
State and local workers are often stopped on the sides of roads and highways. It is extremely important to slow down and veer around them as you approach. A more alert driver likely could have avoided this tragic loss of life. Do you always give workers their space on the roads?
