CORAL GABLES, Fla.(Nov. 18, 2010)–Attorney Dean C. Colson, partner at Coral Gables-based law firm Colson Hicks Eidson, was recently honored with the distinguished 2010 Jurisprudence Award by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) for his passion for excellence, high ethical and professional standards, dynamic leadership and social responsibility.
“I believe in the mission of the Anti-Defamation League and am proud to support the fight against prejudice and secure justice and fair treatment for all citizens,” said Colson. “I am extremely honored to have received this award.”
The Anti-Defamation League is one of the nation’s premier human relations organizations dedicated to combating anti-Semitism, bigotry and hatred, and to building positive intergroup relations. The Jurisprudence Award was established to recognize individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the legal profession and to the community at large, while exemplifying the principles upon which the Anti-Defamation League was founded. John W. Kozyak of Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton was also honored with the 2010 Jurisprudence Award.
Colson has more than 30 years of leadership experience serving in various civic and community roles. He currently serves as vice-chair of the Florida Board of Governors and was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush to the Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission and Florida’s Commission on Ethics. Colson served as special advisor to Governor Charlie Crist on higher education and as chair of appointments for Crist’s Transition Committee. He is a past president of the Dade County Bar Association, a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Society of Barristers.
He served as Chairman of the University of Miami’s Board of Trustees, Executive Committee, Academic Affairs Committee, and the law school’s Visiting Committee. He is a past president of the Orange Bowl Committee and was Chairman of the 1995 Super Bowl XXIX Host Committee. Colson is a recipient of Mayor of Miami’s “Citizen of the Year” award and the James W. McLamore Outstanding Volunteer Award given by the Miami-Dade Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and was honored with an Honorary Degree-Doctor of Laws from Florida International University.
