Eidson Recognized Among Nation’s Elite by Trial Lawyer Magazine
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (Feb. 1, 2018) – The law firm of Colson Hicks Eidson is pleased to announce that partner Lewis S. “Mike” Eidson has been selected as one of America’s 50 Most Influential Lawyers by The Trial Lawyer magazine, the official magazine of The National Trial Lawyers organization.
The selection places Eidson on The RoundTable, an elite group of the country’s top civil plaintiff and criminal defense attorneys. Each year, The Trial Lawyer magazine identifies a select group of trial lawyers who have met the challenges of the legal profession and achieved extraordinary success in the courtroom. Honorees are nominated by the magazine’s readership, and evaluations are based on the attorney’s professional achievements, trial results, and ability to affect change in the legal community.
Eidson will be honored at The National Trial Lawyers Award Luncheon on February 5th at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel in which Alex Rodriguez, Major League Baseball’s three-time MVP, will deliver the keynote address. The luncheon is part of the Trial Lawyers Summit, which is being held February 4-7 at the Loews Hotel.
A nationally recognized trial lawyer best known for his work on some of the largest automotive recalls in U.S. history, Eidson has tried more than 125 cases to jury verdict during his career. He served as a national lead co-counsel in the Ford-Firestone tire multidistrict litigation and was also appointed to the plaintiffs’ steering committee in the multidistrict litigation against Toyota Motor Corp. for sudden unintended acceleration. Together with his partners, Bill Colson and Bill Hicks, Eidson tried and won, the first case alleging that the Ford Pinto fuel system was defective. This case played an important role in improving automobile fuel systems, greatly reducing fuel-fed fires worldwide.
A renowned author and lecturer, Eidson is a founding member of the Institute for Injury Reduction, a national organization dedicated to reducing injuries caused by defective products. He is active in numerous professional associations committed to improving safety practices and has volunteered his time on a multitude of professional and community boards, having received numerous awards for his service.
Eidson has been actively involved with the American Association for Justice, the world’s largest trial bar and a leading defender of justice, for more than 20 years, serving as President in 2006-2007. He has also served as president of the Dade County Trial Lawyers Association and the Miami Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He was installed as chairman of the American Association for Justice Foundation and awarded the Florida Justice Association’s Al J. Cone Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.
Eidson is an elected member of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and the American College of Trial Lawyers and was recently selected by Emory University School of Law as one of its top 100 law school graduates.
