There has been an update on the hit and run bicycle accident that we told you about on our blog. Coral Gables Police have made an arrest in the fatal hit and run accident that claimed the life of a 33-year-old man from Mexico.
On March 26th, a deceased bicycler was found in the street by a Coral Gables Policeman, who investigated the scene and discovered that a car had collided with the bike rider and fled the scene. Not long after, a 911 call was made by a woman who was the designated driver for her friends. She had witnessed the collision, followed the driver and watched the man remove the bike from his car after the collision.
Police found the car involved in the crash less than 24 hours after the incident, but waited to make an arrest. They wanted to build a case against the driver, and after collecting cellphone records and DNA evidence, the police made their move. The witness positively identified the suspect in a line up, and the 41-year-old was taken into custody.
“We have got to come to a place where bicyclists, pedestrians and cars can co-exist on our streets,” said the police chief at the news conference where they announced the arrest. The lawyers at Colson Hicks Eidson can relate to that sentiment.
