A 69-year-old Florida man who lost his leg in a horrific boating accident in February spoke to local news outlet earlier for this month. It is the man’s first interview since a boat ran over him while he was swimming near Naples’ Vanderbilt Beach this past winter. The man spoke to winknews.com about the catastrophic accident.
On February 26, he was only in the water for about a minute when the boat drove right over him. The boat’s propeller cut off his left leg just below the knee. He said he looked down and saw that his left leg was gone, and that he thought he was going to die. He was out of the hospital one week later and back at his home in Bonita Springs.
He said he does not hate the boater who ran him over, and his focus is on recovering the best he can. He will continue his physical rehabilitation and hopes to re-gain an active lifestyle as soon as possible. Doctors prescribed him pain medication, but he only takes it when necessary.
Last week, Florida authorities charged the man who ran him over with reckless operation resulting in a boating accident and violating navigation rules.
