The U.S. is overflowing with auto recalls. The Takata recall has grown to become the largest auto recall in history and the GM ignition switch recall has found new life since the government ruled that new GM is responsible for the actions of old GM. Now the number one automaker in the America is joining in on the recall chaos.
Why Can’t Ford Close the Door On Latch Issues?
If you own a Ford Escape, Focus, Transit Connect, Mustang or a Lincoln MKC, then you might want to call your local Ford dealer. Some 2012 through 2016 year models of these cars have a problem that could leave you hanging out of your car while driving down the street.
According to the manufacturer, these vehicles were built with springs inside their door panels that could easily break. The metal in the springs is particularly sensitive to high temperatures and sunlight exposure, so Ford will be recalling these vehicles through most of the southern states and Mexico. If a person experiences one of the breaks, and they don’t live in one of the recall states, Ford will also replace the faulty door component for free.
This defect has already caused at least one crash and one injury. Ford claims that it has received no further reports of incidents, but only time and an investigation will expose the truth. For now, the country’s top automaker is asking that its customers keep an eye on their mailboxes. However, some of these car owners might be feeling a little déjà vu.
Another Ford Door Latch Recall
Back in May of 2015, Ford recalled 692,000 cars for a similarly faulty door latch. The situation was so concerning that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration sent a warning to Ford owners that they needed to get their vehicles fixed as soon as possible. And then just a few weeks ago, Ford released another recall on the F-150 for a defective master brake cylinder.
