We all remember the tragic shooting spree this past July in Aurora, Colorado, that took the lives of 12 people during a showing of the latest Batman movie. The shooter also injured nearly 60 other people in the attack. Now, the victims have filed lawsuits against the movie theater, in addition to other defendants for the lack of security the night of the shooting.
Three survivors filed their lawsuits in federal court claiming that better security could have stopped the shooter. In their complaints, the plaintiffs tell a horrific first-hand account of their ordeal in the theater that night. During and after the attack, there was no theater employee or security personnel who intervened or tried to help the victims. Even after the shooting ended, theater personnel made no attempt to help the victims or evacuate the theater, according to the complaints.
The theater reportedly hired security personnel in the past, but it did not do so the night of the shooting because it was not a weekend night. The plaintiffs request damages for the theater’s alleged negligence.
