“Hey lady, are you all right?” That was the question that three men in a boat asked an injured woman they had just run over with their boat in a Utah lake. The men then sped off without offering aid to the bleeding woman. The woman died in the August boating accident.
Her family recently filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the three men. The suit alleges that the men were under the influence of alcohol and marijuana at the time they hit the woman in the boat. She was swimming and they failed to see her in the water, according to the complaint. When they ran her over, the boat’s propeller cut into her torso and lower abdomen.
The wrongful death suit alleges that there were other unnamed men in the boat as well at the time of the accident. They allege that the men failed to help the victim and failed to seek help for her. The victim was a molecular biologist at the University of Utah.
This is a tragic report and we hope this does not happen often. Neglecting to help a critically injured victim is hard to believe. It is perhaps an illustration of how alcohol and drugs affect a person’s judgment for the worse.
