Attorney- at- Law Magazine recently noted that injury attorney Dean Colson was unanimously elected chair of the Board of Governors of the State University System of Florida at a November 2011 meeting of the board. The 17-member board is responsible for the management of Florida’s State University System. “At this challenging time for our 11 public universities, I look forward to continuing the strong commitment that I share with my fellow Board members to ensuring our State University System has the resources its needs while serving our more than 320,000 students at all levels,” Colson said after being elected chair on November 10, 2011. “The Board of Governors’ mission and its constitutional responsibilities have never been more tested nor more important.
Colson presided over his first meeting as Chair of the Florida Board of Governors on January 19, 2012. The members of the Board of Governors are appointed by the Governor in staggered seven-year terms and are subject to Florida Senate confirmation. Colson’s term on the board began on January 6, 2010 and ends on January 6, 2017.
