On August 10, 2022, President Joe Biden signed the Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act (PACT) of 2022. This Act includes a provision known as The Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022 that specifically addresses those who had been stationed at Camp Lejeune and allows any individual who believes they were (1) exposed to contaminated water at Camp Lejeune for at least 30 consecutive days between 1953 and 1987, and (2) have suffered injuries due to exposure to (or ingestion of) contaminated water may file a claim with the Office of the Judge Advocate General of the Navy’s Tort Claims Unit (TCU) in Norfolk, VA.
This Act will provide former residents of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune – including military service members, civilians and their family members who may have been exposed to harmful chemicals, the right to seek reparations from the U.S. government for the toxic water exposure on the military base.
In the 1980’s, The Marine Corps discovered that the drinking water supply for the Camp Lejeune military base was dangerously contaminated with high levels of dangerous chemicals. These colorless chemicals are not only toxic but are also linked to a range of serious health conditions including cancer.
Even if you are already receiving medical benefits or other compensation from the V.A. for Camp Lejeune water, you may still qualify for filing a claim under the Camp Lejeune Justice Act.
