When you get behind the wheel of your vehicle, you should never have to worry about whether it is defective and might cause you harm. Unfortunately, there are times when vehicles or individual vehicle parts can lead to devastating accidents. The award-winning team at Colson Hicks Eidson has learned that Toyota is recalling approximately 700,000 vehicles in the United States due to faulty fuel pumps. We are here to protect consumers, and our product liability attorneys help clients in Florida and throughout the United States secure the compensation they deserve.
What is happening with this recall?
Toyota has announced that it is recalling 700,000 vehicles in the United States. They say that the fuel pumps in these vehicles can fail and cause engines to stall, leading to an increased risk of crashes occurring. The recall covers certain 2018 and 2019 models across several Toyota brands, including:
- Lexus LS 500, LC 500, RC 350, RC 300, GS 350, IS 300, ES 350, LX 570, GX 460, and RX 350
- Toyota 4Runner, Camry, Highlander, Land Cruiser, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma, and Tundra
The company also says that some 2019 Avalon and Corolla models could be affected.
In their recall notice, Toyota said that the fuel pump “may stop operating.” If this happens, they say that warning lights and messages should be displayed on the engine panel and that the engine may run rough.
In a statement from Toyota, this faulty fuel pump “can result in a vehicle stall, and the vehicle may be unable to be restarted. If a vehicle stall occurs while driving at higher speeds, this could increase the risk of a crash.”
Vehicle recalls are not uncommon, and there are usually several that take place each year. These recalls are often due to issues, like the faulty fuel pump from Toyota, which can cause crashes and serious injuries. Consumers can go to the government website that tracks all current recalls seeing whether or not they own a vehicle or vehicle part that could cause them harm. The recall page will show faulty vehicles, parts, tires, and child safety seats that are potentially dangerous for the consumer.
