The impact was so severe that it knocked the shirt and shoes off his body, according to one eyewitness. That witness saw a woman driver her pickup through a construction zone and hit a 28-year-old construction worker. The worker died at the scene, as reported at hernandotoday.com.
The car accident happened in November in Spring Hill near Spring Park Way. One lane of the highway was closed for construction. The pickup driver failed to merge to the open lane and drove straight through some construction barrels. The vehicle did not slow down before hitting the worker. Nearby witnesses said they heard the collision and saw the worker’s body in the air.
One witness ran to the accident scene with some sheets to cover the body. Other witnesses were performing CPR on the man before paramedics arrived at the scene. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. The victim in this case was wearing a reflective vest and was working in a designated construction zone. Unfortunately, not all drivers obey the warnings about reduced speeds in construction zones. At such high speeds, construction barriers are futile in stopping a vehicle.
