If you love your Apple products as we do, you should take note of this two product recalls by the Consumer Protection Safety Commission (CPSC). Battery cases for the iPhone 3G/3GS and the iPod Touch are prone to overheating and are a fire hazard, according to the agency.
Rocketfish manufacturers the iPhone 3G/3GS battery case, which can overheat while charging. So far, there are reports of 14 incidents where the case overheated in the United States. Three of the reports involved burn injuries and four involved property damage. The case is made of black rubber and contains a built-in battery. There is the model number, “RF-KL12,” printed on the package and on the inside of the case.
Mophie, LLC is the manufacturer of the iPod Touch battery case that can also overheat when charging. There have been 110 reports of the product becoming extremely warm. Nine of the reports involved burn injuries and 44 involved the product deforming. The cases come in black, red and blue.
In both instances, the CPSC recommends that consumers stop using the products immediately and contact the manufacturers for a refund.
