CORAL GABLES, Fla. (Oct. 15, 2010) –Colson Hicks Eidson partner Julie Braman Kane was honored with the distinguished Alumni Leadership Award by the University of Miami Law Alumni Association at its annual Miami-Dade County Judicial Reception on Oct. 5 at the Sabadell United Center.
The Alumni Leadership Award is given annually by the alumni association to attorneys who have distinguished themselves in their careers and serve as role models for the next generation.
“I am extremely honored to have received this award,” said Kane. “I am grateful to have attended such a fine academic institution, and I rely daily on the foundation, skills, and knowledge the University of Miami School of Law provided me. I hope to continue to honor the law school through service to our community.”
Kane is a ’93, cum laude, graduate of the University of Miami School of Law, where she was a Dean’s Merit Scholar and the recipient of the American Jurisprudence Book Award in Commercial Law II, as well as inducted into the legal honor societies of Phi Delta Phi and Omicron Delta Kappa.
Other honorees included The Honorable Jose E. Martinez, JD ’65, who was awarded the Alumni Achievement Award, and Steven Befera, JD ’83, who was also presented with the Alumni Leadership Award along with Kane.
Kane practices in the areas of medical malpractice, personal injury, products liability, class action and commercial litigation at Colson Hicks Eidson. She is past president of the Miami-Dade Chapter for the Florida Association of Women Lawyers and serves on the executive committee and board of governors for the American Association for Justice. Kane also serves on the board of directors for the Florida Justice Association and is a commissioner on the Florida Elections Commission.
