World’s Largest Trial Bar Selects Eidson as Foundation’s First Chairman
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (August 1, 2013) – Attorney Lewis S. “Mike” Eidson, partner at the Coral Gables-based law firm Colson Hicks Eidson, has been appointed chairman of the American Association for Justice Foundation, a new non-profit organization established to support the civil justice system and ensure wrongdoers are held accountable to those injured or killed as the result of negligent misconduct. The Foundation, established in 2013, is based in Washington, D.C.
“The Foundation has been established to protect and preserve the civil-justice system for all people and I am proud to serve as its first chairman,” said Eidson. “I look forward to working with the members of the board during the coming year.”
Eidson, a nationally recognized trial attorney, was selected as the Foundation’s first chairman by the American Association for Justice’s (AAJ) President Burton Leblanc at its annual convention in San Francisco.
Eidson has been an integral member of the AAJ (formerly known as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America) for more than 20 years, including serving as president from 2006-2007 and as an officer for six years. He has also served as chairman of almost every committee, including chair of the political action committee, and most recently stepped down as president of the AAJ Endowment after serving for one year.
In 2010, Eidson was recognized by the AAJ with the David S. Shrager President’s Award for his lifelong commitment to the AAJ, the civil-justice system, and the protection of consumers. He also received the Stephen Sharpe Award for his work in the field of consumer safety. In 2008, the AAJ’s Women for Justice Education Fund established the Mike Eidson Scholarship, awarded annually to two women who demonstrate a desire to practice trial law.
The law firm of Colson Hicks Eidson has a long history with the AAJ, the nation’s leading defender of civil justice. Firm co-founder Bill Colson also served as president of the association from 1964-1965 and partner Julie Braman Kane was recently installed as secretary, following a term as treasurer.
Eidson concentrates his practice on litigation, primarily in the fields of products liability, medical and legal malpractice, aviation, and class-action and multi-district litigation.
