According to The Toronto Sun, on January 13, tragedy struck when a worker died after a roof collapsed on him at a Target store. Emergency personnel had been called to the scene at Sheridan Centre in Mississauga, Ontario and found a man trapped beneath the metal.
The construction crew had been called in to install metal roof decking at the store. When officials arrived on the scene, they reported that the metal beams that had once formed the frame of the building’s roof were bent and twisted. Mississauga Fire Services said the victim was pronounced dead after being removed from under the metal.
The deceased worker was an employee of Vixman Deck and Cladding, which was a sub-contractor on the project run by PCL Constructors Canada.
Police are currently continuing an investigation into this fatal construction accident.
My Loved One Was Killed On The Job Due to an Unsafe Work Environment
We expect our employers to take all the necessary precautions to ensure that we are working in a safe environment. This includes avoiding the use of dangerous products and preventing situations that can cause serious personal injury and wrongful death.
We are working closely with several of the surviving family members of the four workers killed by the Miami-Dade Community College garage collapse, which occurred on October 10, 2012. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has concluded an investigation into the accident, and found that the violations of at least five of the contracting companies working on the parking garage project are responsible for the events that led to the construction accident.
The law firm of Colson Hicks Eidson believes that construction workers have the right to be safe while performing their job duties. Speak with one of our attorneys today to tell us about your situation and your circumstances.
