Sometimes the worst accidents happen in the places we least expect. When people are on their property, they feel safe and protected, and in many cases, they should.
However, the feeling of safety and the reality of it are two very different things, and when people let their guard down because they feel safe, an accident can sometimes result if that feeling does not match reality.
Recently, a car accident in Lake Worth, Florida left one man dead and a business owner just shy of joining him. According to The Palm Beach Post, the owner of an automotive shop was nearly struck by a car when the vehicle came crashing into his garage while he was working on another car he had on a lift.
Thankfully, the man saw the car speeding toward his business out of the side of his eye and was able to jump out of its way. After missing the shop owner, the car went under the lift, knocked the vehicle he was repairing off, collided with another car in the garage and sent a large toolbox through a concrete wall.
The man’s daughter was in his office at the time of the accident and escaped injury. He was injured by a part of the lift that hit him, an injury that required him to get staples in his arm.
“Fifteen seconds earlier and I would have been a hood ornament,” said the shop owner.
The 88-year-old woman driving the car that crashed into the man’s garage had to be taken to Delray Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition. Her 90-year-old husband, who was a passenger in the car, died in the crash.
